1. What is this case about?

On August 20, 2006 the FBI arrested Socrates - he was indicted on charges of trying to influence the Government/state department officials to remove LTTE from the list of banned organizations.

 

2. Did Mr. Socrates have any relationship with LTTE?

No. He doesn't have any relationship with LTTE. However, he has expressed concerns to U.S. State department about the innocent civilians suffering in Sri Lanka because of indiscriminate bombing of Sri Lankan government for over two decades. He has petitioned the state department requesting the US government to stop supporting a government that violates basic human rights.

 

3. I am still not convinced that donations to Mr. Socrates' are legal. Can I talk to the defense attorney?

4. Where does Mr. Socrates live?

Mr. Socrates is a U.S. citizen. He has been living in Simsbury, CT, USA for over 20 years.

 

5. How is his defense fund collected and managed?

Ms. Socrates has opened a bank account in Peoples Bank in the name of "Socrates Legal Defense Fund". Funds are collected in the above said account and disbursed to the case expenditure as and when needed.
